Velvet Quilt

Some years ago I found I had a lot of velvet oddments so I used them up in a simple quilt. I don't like crazy patchwork very much so I just used a little to liven up a basic design. And since velvet is not well-suited to quilting I tied the corners of the squares and added a button to the centre of each block.

The red is from my first grown-up evening dress - red velvet with lace sleeves and upper bodice. I made it myself by hand (not using the sewing machine) and was so proud of it.

This wine coloured velvet was from a suit my mother had in the early 1950s. It is lovely and soft and catches the light amazingly. I wore the skirt and jacket a few times in the early 1980s.
